David Ferrer emerges victorious through two sets to defeat Jerzy Janowicz in the final of the 2012 Paris Masters.
2012 has been a successful year for Ferrer, another Spaniard who had fallen into the shadow of former world number one Rafael Nadal during recent years. Though the injury sustained by Nadal may be a blow for the sport, it has patched the way for other players to progress further in tournaments. The likes of Ferrer and Andy Murray who for the last five years have been pushing to enter the famed top four in World Tennis. For Ferrer, 2012 has bought him seven trophies, including the Valencia Open and the Copa Claro, Argentina.
The Spaniard won his first Masters event after beating the first qualifier in eight years to make the final in Paris, Jerzy Janowicz 6-4 6-3. Ferrer, the fourth seed at the tournament defeated the world number 69, who had managed to beat five other players inside the top 20 in the world rankings, including Andy Murray, en route to reaching the final.
Janowicz tried his hardest to mount any pressure but the experienced Ferrer wrapped up the win after one hour 27 minutes.

"I was very nervous because it was my chance to win a first Masters title but somehow I knew this time was my turn," said the Spaniard.
Ferrer now travels to London to compete in the London Masters on Monday.
